Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills is the shopping mecca of the West Coast. This go-to destination is known for its posh lineup of luxury brands popular with locals and tourists alike. Over the past years, these opulent streets have undergone multiple facelifts. Each time these expansions brought shops up-to-date and consumers access to a wider range of products. One brand joining the most recent renovation bandwagon is French jewelry manufacturer Cartier.
This article is intended to keep you up to date on the Cartier Beverly Hills reconstruction process. We will update the post regularly to include current photos of the progress.
How it started: A Cartier Story
Although synonymous with the iconic Love Bangle and the Juste un Clou, Cartier is more than *just* a bracelet manufacturer. The luxury brand was founded in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier. That’s right, in true French fashion, the label carries the name of its creator, just like Chanel, and Goyard.
Originally a family-run business, the small jewelry workshop was known for its craftsmanship and exquisite pieces featuring diamonds, gemstones, and precious metals. They soon gained recognition for their artistry and innovative designs.
By 1874, his son Alfred took over and began expanding the business. This daring move helped distinguish the Maison’s first boutique in Paris attracting more prominent clientele. Eventually, this led to the company’s growth and additional boutiques in London, and then New York.
Unfortunately, financial challenges struck the family which led to the sale of shares in the early 1970s. Thanks to investors the company expanded globally and soon the brand opened boutiques in prime locations like Geneva, Tokyo, and eventually Beverly Hills.
Reconstruction of the Beverly Hills Cartier Flagship Boutique
You’re seeing this right, it’s all gone. The entire building has been removed!
It is interesting to know that since setting up on Rodeo Drive, the Cartier boutique has undergone several renovations. But usually that doesn’t mean tearing down the entire building. As of late the prestigious jeweler is among the shops given the go signal by the City of Beverly Hills Planning Commission for a revamp.
Despite a few construction delays, the brand is back on track. The expansion sees the retailer doubling its existing floor space. The project consists of demolishing the existing building to make way for a 3-story, 15,000-square-foot structure. Cartier’s new establishment will feature an outdoor terrace space on the third floor. There’s also a partial basement designed to comply with the City’s Parking Program.
According to the construction designs submitted to the Planning Commission, the commercial space follows a high-end, contemporary architectural style that will enhance the allure of the area. More importantly, the outcome is thought to add a harmonious design that helps boost economic and pedestrian activity on North Rodeo Drive.
As of right now, there are no specific dates for the redesign completion. Nonetheless, its grand opening is highly anticipated by Cartier fans. In the meantime, visitors to the locale can admire and take photos of the hand-painted mural on the construction’s barricade and visit the temporary location. While the flagship store is being built you can head across the streets to find the temporary Cartier store at 411 N. Rodeo Drive, right beside Goyard.
