Silver is a great material to create jewelry out of. TIFFANY & Co. started their jewelry collection all around Sterling Silver as it is more affordable than gold. Unfortunately, silver will form a oxidisation layer when exposed to the atmosphere. That process will take some time which is why usually we only notice this when not wearing our silver jewelry for extended periods of time. It tarnishes and turns black-ish as a reaction to the oxygen in the air. There are different ways to revers this process. The easiest method you can try at home is elaborated in this video. All you need is salt, backing soda, aluminum foil and hot water – things to be found in 99% of households. Results won’t be as perfect as a professional cleaning and polish but it only takes a couple of minutes to restore some shine of your silver jewelry in the comfort of your home.
