Under Construction: The Tory Burch Rodeo Drive Flagship Store Is Being Revamped

Like many stores on LA’s most expensive retail street, renovation on Rodeo Drive’s Tory Burch boutique is well underway. Located at 366 N Rodeo Drive and wedged between Cartier and Roberto Cavalli, it’s hard to miss with its gold geometric facade and signature stylized stacked T logo. From the outside, the boutique looks deceptively small. However, for frequent shoppers, this is far from the truth. In fact, the retail venue is loaded to the brim with fab sandals, chic bags, accessories, and the season’s ready-to-wear apparel.
But what’s a fashionista to do if their fave high-end retailer is temporarily out of commission? Well, besides online shopping you can always search for branches nearest you. Thankfully, for Beverly Hills customers, Tory Burch ensured no one misses out on their Spring Summer 2024 collection by opening a temporary pop-up store on Melrose.
The Pop-Up. What is it?
Flash retailing, aka pop-ups, can come in many shapes and sizes. Although common in fashion it’s not limited to this industry alone. Nonetheless, when a traditional brick-and-mortar is unavailable, the next best thing is to set up shop short term. Why is this ideal? Besides providing the brand flexibility, it gives consumers an accessible Tory Burch outlet when a flagship is inaccessible. If you want to visit the Tory Burch pop-up store while the Rodeo Drive boutique is under construction, you can find it at 8483 Melrose Ave in West Hollywood.

Okay, now that’s out of the way let’s talk about Tory Burch’s pop-up. Done in collaboration with Humberto Leon of Open Ceremony, the temporary space showcases an adorable animal theme. Although a noticeable departure from the old Rodeo Drive interiors, the Melrose store and its feline aesthetic offer a unique shopping experience.
Upon arriving at the boutique, customers are greeted with a fun mouse image repeated on the facade. Walking in you’ll see the white walls are a canvas for the large black-and-white cat images of German photographer Walter Schels. But this isn’t the first time the kitties have come out to play since they debuted during the brand’s 2024 resort collection.
Besides the cat portraits adorning the interiors, fuzzy shag carpeting underfoot mimics soft animal fur. Metal structural beams in the shop are designed to look like cat towers where shoppers can paw through clothing racks.
Meanwhile, custom pink ceramic seats designed by Aranza Garcia are scattered throughout the store. These blush-colored stools showcase some key pieces from the label. Spot runway must-haves like a cow print Lee Radziwill Double Bag, the gorgeous Kira Diamond Quilt Shoulder Bag, and the quirky Pierced Mule.
Along with items from the latest resort series, a special capsule collection by Tory and Humberto is available only in-store. This fashion assemblage features darling t-shirts, sweaters, and totes with various abstract cat and bunny photos by Schels.
These playful pieces conceptualized by the pair encourage the well-dressed to diversify their wardrobe. In an interview, the talented Humberto said: “We’re proposing different ways of wearing and styling clothing, making everything less precious, mixing runway with, for example, fleece.”
He further stressed throwing together simple fabrics with high-end pieces. By doing so, fashionistas get more wear of all the items in their wardrobe. According to Leon: “In your closet, everything is equal. Your concert t-shirt you got when you were 18 is as valuable as the runway piece.”
When asked about the fashion alliance, Tory said: “I wanted him to feel free to experiment and bring his one point of view to the space, the photography, and the collection. I like the tension of collaborating with someone as creative as he is.”
A Glimpse Into the Tory Burch Rodeo Drive Renovation
Old Tory Burch Rodeo Drive Facade.
Not much info regarding the construction is shared by the brand. The few details made public via a Beverly Hills Architectural Commission Report discuss plans for facade modifications. Patrons of the premium label can expect the new Tory Burch boutique to feature a white stucco finish which acts as a backdrop for a brass lattice metal frontage. This contemporary restyling extends the metal coverage all the way from the second to the new third-floor space.
Previously a rooftop garden, the converted third story will give shoppers extra retail space. Meanwhile, a portion of the roof will now include a gorgeous skylight bringing natural illumination to the interiors beneath it.
Since the construction phase can be unsightly, the Tory Burch outlet has set up stylish barricades. This move ensures the shopping district maintains its luxe and pristine vibe. Based on the proposal, barriers feature on-brand lifestyle images which will remain until construction completion. If all goes to plan, loyal customers of the fashion house get to experience the new shop by the year’s end.
In the meantime, the kitty adorned pop-up welcomes fashion lovers to stock up on classic tunics, ballet flats, or seasonal pieces.
