CHANEL 22S PREVIEW – First Look At Chanel Spring/Summer Collection 2022
Raise your hand if, like us, you feel like you’ve been living in a state of semi-hibernation for the last two years! It’s no secret how the Coronavirus has affected the lives of people globally. We’ve gone through lockdowns, face masks, quarantines, vaccines, more lockdowns, and still it feels like the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t as close as it seems. At this point, it kind of feels like we have been turned into zombies. But not the brain-eating type, more like the sweatpants wearing humans who have been confined indoors for way too long.
And we aren’t the only ones who seem eager to welcome 2022 with higher spirits. Compared to seasons before it, several well-known design houses have released collections that are a far cry from their somber selves. Take, for example, the Chanel Spring/Summer Collection that recently graced the runways.

Sure, there’s still a large chunk of the population working from home, but this doesn’t have to be an excuse not to enjoy one of the most celebrated luxury fashion brands in history. Nor is the home set up a reason to look and dress sloppily. We are firm believers of self-care which to us includes marveling at high-end RTW clothes or treating ourselves to the occasional designer bags. Thanks to Chanel we get to experience this.
Unlike the posh brand’s 2021 set which primarily featured the ultra-trendy micro bags, this year, the great minds working behind this popular Maison are bringing back some of our much-loved silhouettes.
Before you think this season brings nothing new to the table, that my dear friend is where you are wrong. You see, rather than constantly churning out new styles, this longtime luxe label was smart enough to stick with classics but with an added twist. Chanel’s SS22 contains a series of interesting bag updates and numerous drool-worthy ready-to-wear options.
Exploring the Chanel Spring/Summer 2022 Collection
So without further ado, let’s get into this season’s must-have bags and chic outfits for the spring and summer months. Get ready to take notes, because we’re showcasing some noteworthy pieces from the fashionable assemblage.
Keeping the Iconic Leather & Chain

Everyone recognizes Chanel by the interlocked double C’s and by the iconic leather and chain strap that can be spotted in the majority of their bag designs. Some variations exist where one or two of these elements are used as bag straps. With the chain style synonymous with the designer name, there doesn’t seem to be a reason to make drastic changes to it. In fact, these components are more prominent than ever.
Hello Hobo Bags
Some time ago, the unstructured and slouchy shape of the hobo bag made it a popular choice amongst many fashionistas. These understated yet stylish sacks became a wardrobe mainstay for many. Fast forward to 2022, and lo and behold – the hobo bag comes into visibility in the most recent Chanel show. Perfect for daily use, the hobo is a versatile piece that lets wearers fill its roomy interiors without compromising the bag’s overall composition and structure.

Besides the timeless hobo bags which can be worn on a shoulder strap, the year’s Chanel lineup includes an alternative you can tote around via its chain handle or wear in a crossbody fashion.
C is for Coins!

Some of us might recall a moment in fashion history when jangly coin bracelets, belts, and earrings were all the rage. And if we rummage through our mom’s jewelry box, we might still find one or two of these babies in there. But when we’re plum out of luck, the next best thing is to take home one of Chanel’s coin embellished leather goods. Although the selection for this series is not as comprehensive as the rest, it’s enough to satisfy a craving for this boho-esque vibe.
Rebirth of the Chanel 19
Among the more recognizable pieces being toted in the 22S Show is the upstyled Chanel 19. Initially launched in 2019 (hence the moniker), this flap bag is still in its infancy, especially where popularity is involved. The current reincarnation of the bag introduces an exaggerated chain strap. This noticeable chunky accouterment adds flair and dimension to an otherwise unassuming structure.

Save for the usual flap bag in leather, the style is also available in several other fabrics. If you feel like the standard animal hide in basic black is a little lackluster for your own personal taste, Chanel also produced it in a number of fun colors. In our opinion though, all eyes will be on the plus sized straps. We highly doubt onlookers would even remember the bag’s color.
Simple Updates

There has always been a huge appeal in anything vintage, particularly when it comes to designer items. Due to this large interest in timeless pieces, Chanel’s designers opted to reintroduce some classics by reinventing a few components. For example, some bags for 22S now come with longer chain straps that allow individuals to wear these retro designs as a crossbody bag.

Other updates are visible in the simple redesign of the Vintage Vanity which is now being used as something besides a kit for storing toiletries and makeup. Today’s Vanity bag is a showstopper that many young celebs can be seen wearing on their coffee runs, brunch dates, or girl’s night out.

There’s a fresh take for many older styles with several of them released in neutral colors that make them easy to pair with any outfit. No Spring/Summer collection would be complete without the release of cool blue hues, light pinks, lilacs, and other pastel shades that are fantastic for these months.
Ready-to-Wear
We rarely feature RTW clothing since these items are still a little out of our reach. With so many of Chanel’s apparel costing more than a pair of bags, it’s not something the average fashion fan would reach for. Nonetheless, there are undeniably countless clothing pieces modeled for the 2022 series that are just begging to be taken home.

There’s also this unique crossover between the zebra print and the Chanel monogram paired with the blue playsuit that is reminiscent of the 80s supermodel era.

No Chanel release would be complete without their jacket + mini pairing. The striking sets come with gorgeous swatches of fun colors.

Seriously though, a side-by-side of Spring/Summer 2022 with 2021 will give you a clearer understanding of why this series has us bursting in excitement! If you want to see more of their clothes, we suggest checking out the official Chanel site.
Same Old Brand New You
The current lineup of bags and purses featured in the 2022 Collection is a modern take on some of the luxury brand’s most iconic bag styles. Along with the revamped luxury roster, Chanel’s Spring/Summer line also introduces a handful of new morsels that would delight longtime collectors. The season also has us bidding farewell to the micro bag that dominated trend lists. Truth be told, we aren’t too sad to see the teeny tiny bags go since this high-end design house has managed to fill the void with their redesigned retro numbers. So tell us, have you picked out your favorites?
